The video by Taylor Barr explains PPC affiliates, who use paid search to drive traffic and earn commissions. Companies should assess their own resources and build trusted relationships before working with PPC affiliates.
Understanding and leveraging the right affiliates can significantly enhance your affiliate marketing strategy. Among these, Pay-Per-Click (PPC) affiliates stand out for their unique approach to driving traffic and conversions. This article delves into the mechanics of PPC affiliates, evaluates whether they are the right fit for your affiliate program, and offers insights into collaborating effectively with them.
PPC affiliates are individuals or entities that join your affiliate program and utilize paid search results to drive traffic to your site. They typically employ two main strategies:
Non-Branded Keywords: By bidding on industry-related terms, PPC affiliates generate search results that link to your products or services. These affiliates earn a commission by directing traffic through their affiliate links placed in these paid search ads.
Branded or Trademark Terms: Affiliates might also bid on specific trademarked terms, such as your brand name. While this can increase visibility, it often competes with your own PPC efforts, which is why many companies restrict this practice.
The decision to work with PPC affiliates hinges on several factors:
Internal PPC Efforts: If your company has a dedicated PPC team, collaborating with PPC affiliates might create internal competition. Companies often restrict trademark bidding to avoid conflicts and maintain control over brand representation.
Resource Limitations: Smaller companies lacking the resources for a robust PPC strategy may benefit from PPC affiliates. Trusted partners can effectively manage PPC efforts on a commission basis, aligning with your affiliate program goals.
Building Trust: Establishing trust with PPC affiliates is crucial. Understanding their promotion strategies ensures they do not conflict with your existing PPC efforts. Set clear guidelines on bidding limits and trademark usage to safeguard your interests.
1. What are the primary benefits of working with PPC affiliates?
PPC affiliates can expand your reach by leveraging paid search to drive traffic. They are particularly beneficial for companies without a strong internal PPC strategy.
2. How can I ensure PPC affiliates do not compete with my internal efforts?
Develop clear guidelines and maintain open communication. Define limits on bidding amounts and restrict the use of trademarked terms if necessary.
3. Are there risks associated with PPC affiliates?
Yes, particularly if they bid on your trademarked terms or if their strategies conflict with your internal PPC efforts. Ensure that any partnership is built on trust and clear agreements.
4. How do I find trustworthy PPC affiliates?
Research potential affiliates thoroughly. Look for partners with a proven track record and positive reputation in the industry. Building a relationship with them is key to a successful collaboration.
Integrating PPC affiliates into your affiliate marketing strategy can be a powerful move, provided it aligns with your business goals and resources. Assessing your current PPC efforts and setting clear terms for collaboration can lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.
if you're curious about what PPC.
affiliates do or how to work with them.
or if you have affiliates that are doing.
PPC in your affiliate program now and.
how you should approach that watch this.
video we're gonna talk all about it stay.
tuned.
[Applause].
[Music].
alright I was having a great.
conversation with a client today they.
had a PPC affiliate in their affiliate.
program they didn't really know how they.
were driving traffic they just knew that.
they saw conversions and the performance.
was good but they kind of had some some.
thoughts that they might be doing.
something negative and they didn't know.
how to actually work with that partner.
to to figure that out before I dive into.
that let's kind of back up a little bit.
and just talk just have a primer on what.
a PPC affiliate is so a PPC affiliate is.
someone who signs up for your affiliate.
program and they use paid search results.
in order to drive traffic and the way.
they do that is usually in two ways.
one is that they bid on non branded.
keywords and non-branded keywords are.
basically maybe industry terms that once.
they've been on those terms products or.
services related to those terms will.
show up and the paid search result the.
results as they do that they put in.
their affiliate link for your product or.
service and direct people fund that paid.
ad to your site to buy your product or.
service and that affiliate gets.
Commission so it's kind of just.
leveraging a PPC ad budgets on their.
sides and and then they get a commission.
for that effort for promoting that.
product or service and the paid search.
results there's also branded terms or.
what we call trademark terms so if.
you're a merchant like coca-cola and you.
have an affiliate program someone.
hypothetically could sign up for the.
coca-cola affiliate program bid on the.
trademark term coca-cola and then their.
affiliate link would show up and search.
results right the next topic is probably.
the most interesting thing that everyone.
asks is should I work with PPC.
affiliates and the answer is.
it depends now most companies have kind.
of hard set rules against trademark.
bidding right they don't want anyone to.
bid on their trademark because.
oftentimes they are using PPC budgets.
internally or managing you know PPC.
efforts internally and it just raises.
competition with them right now in other.
cases on non branded or other types of.
terms I say it's contingent on what you.
know your industry and your business.
right there are some trusted PPC.
partners and I always say trust it you.
really have to build a relationship with.
them because the idea is that you need.
to know what type or how they are.
promoting and their terms and they're.
not going to do anything that's going to.
step on your internal PPC efforts and.
vice versa now there is also you know if.
you don't have a PPC team internally if.
you've never done PPC FX but you do have.
an affiliate program then oftentimes if.
you work with a trusted partner they'll.
have someone come in and do those.
efforts for you and get paid on through.
the affiliate program on a commission.
basis another question I get is should I.
don't work with PPC affiliates but.
you've kind of piqued my interest so.
should I work with PPC affiliates I.
think it really goes back to you know if.
you don't have someone internally or a.
team internally managing your PPC.
efforts that kind of has to be your.
decision making right if you do have.
something like that and you trust them.
and you are putting a lot of investment.
time energy and resources into that team.
then it probably doesn't make sense to.
have an affiliate do it do that for you.
if you're a smaller company and you.
don't have the budget time or resources.
and you want to work with trusted PPC.
affiliates then then try it out I would.
just be very mindful on if you two have.
kind of limits on what you want to do.
you know max bids that that affiliate.
can do are caps on that they have to do.
daily or monthly in order to not compete.
with you and perhaps some clauses.
related to you know trademark terms all.
right that's it.
everything I.
I can discuss about PPC affiliates how.
to work with them what they do and so.
forth if there's something I missed or.
if you have a kind of ancillary question.
- anything I cover today in today's.
video please leave a comment below and.
click like if you got any value out in.
this video if you want more resources to.
help you grow your SAS base affiliate.
program head on over to up Foundry comm.
